The Wine Angel launched in 2003; it is an import business dedicated to providing limited production, top quality Australian wines to discerning U.S. consumers at modest prices.
Its founder, Michele Anderson, happily reports ...."Australia is one of the largest source of imported wine in the U.S. and now that there is such broad awareness of Australian wine among consumers, they are looking for the very best of what Australia has to offer."
The Wine Angel Portfolio includes fourteen different wine brands from a range of the leading Australian wine regions. There are more than sixty different wines across a diverse selection of wine varieties. Within the portfolio there is an emphasis on wines with more elegance and finesse
than the more ¡®typical¡¯ Australian wines. This elegance comes from either
a cooler climate vineyard location or from winemaking practices. While there are Wine Angel wines that show great intensity of color, aromas, and flavors, you won¡¯t find any ¡®kick in the head reds¡¯ with overly sweet fruit or high alcohol in the portfolio.
Equally importanly , the Wine Angel proudly represents wines that Australians drink at home; many Australian wines available in the US are made specifically for the US market, with no Australian sales, credentials or following. "These speculative, export-only brands are not what Wine Angel or Australian wine is about" says Michele.
Aaron Ridgway does all the important stuff at Wine Angel; he is the Sales Director. Although quickly becoming a New York native, Aaron is an Australian citizen with experience across all facets of the wine business. In addition to his passion and extensive wine career, Aaron is an accomplished journalist and intrepid world traveller. He has worked with some of Australia's leading wine retailers and producers and has also worked in Burgundy.
Michele, who lives in New York City, is an Australian who has lived in the U.S. since 1991 and has spent most of her career to date specializing in the marketing, sales and distribution of media and retailed entertainment products. Her passion for wine emerged more than twenty years ago when she worked her way through law school as a part-time hostess and sommelier at the flagship restaurant in Sydney's Regent Four Seasons Hotel.
Michele's ten years' experience with Booz-Allen & Hamilton in marketing and distribution working with multiple consumer product categories coupled with her media brand building expertise enable her to bring a fresh perspective and unique approach to launching and growing successful wine brands.
Michele received her Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Law from the University of NSW in Australia and her MBA from the Wharton School. She also holds the Diploma in Wine and Spritis from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust and is a Master of Wine candidate, having passed all of the Theory exams in 2009.
