HISTORY

Adjenda is the venture of three friends: Amanda Vanstone, former Australian Ambassador to the United Nations Robert Hill, and Walter Clappis. Walter is a well known Winemaker and bon vivant and he previously owned the Ingoldby winery for 20 years during which time it had a glorious record on the Australian show circuit.

Walter makes the Adjenda wines and he is a leading exponent of biodynamic and sustainable viticulture; his winemaker daughter Kimberly partner with Walter to make the wines and they are joined in the vineyard and at the winery by Kimberly's partner James.

REGION

The Adjenda wines are made at the Amicus winery based in McLaren Vale and the vineyards are located in Langhorne Creek. The climate in both regions is moderated by the cooling sea breezes from the Great Australian Bight and Southern Ocean. Both of these regions are in South Australia and deliver wines with bright fruit character and opulence. Walter's fruit ripening regime, selection and winemaking practices add finesse and surprisingly good acidity to the Adjenda wines.

VITICULTURE AND WINEMAKING

Walter follows a minimalistic winemaking approach; he believes that great wine is "made in the vineyard." Therefore, care is used in the selection of fruit from small vineyard parcels. Traditional methods of viticulture & winemaking are employed, including hand picking, and use of open top fermenters and a Zambelli basket press. Fermentation is completed in small oak barrels to increase the complexity & integrate the oak influence through the wine.

Traditional Langhorne Creek reds are bountiful and full-bodied. Reds varieties across the district show intense colors, clear varietal characteristics and excellent length of flavor. The 40-50 year old vineyards that provide the fruit for the Adjenda wines amplify these appealing characteristics.

The Adjenda range includes the Adjenda Shiraz-Cabernet-Malbec blend and a Reserve Shiraz. The fruit for the Reserve Shiraz comes from the flood plain region of Langhorne Creek. The soil of this lower lying area is darker and richer due to its alluvial origin. In 'the Blend': the Cabernet Sauvignon has rich blackberry and mint characteristics, the Shiraz shows abundant plums, spices and chocolate, and the Malbec brings an extreme depth of color, a silkiness to the palate, and additional spiciness.
