HISTORY
Mirrabooka is the name that the Australian Aborigines give to the Southern Cross constellation, which has served as a celestial navigation guide in the Southern Hemisphere for centuries. According to Aboriginal myth, Mirrabooka was an ancestral being immortalized in the night sky to watch over his tribe and protect all humanity. The Southern Cross is featured on the Mirrabooka wine labels.
THE REGION
Mirrabooka wines come from South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. Drawing the top wines from each region, the
fruit from the finest vineyards across these areas goes into each vintage. In the current releases, the fruit comes from Geelong in Victoria for the Pinot Noir, Cowra in New South Wales for the Unwooded Chardonnay and the cooler regions of the Eden Valley in South Australia for both the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
WINE AND WINEMAKING
The Mirrabooka wines are crafted in a style that Australians love to drink. They are fresh, vibrant wines with a strong sense of place and an emphasis on elegance. They are modestly priced so that they can be enjoyed every day and crafted so that they can be enjoyed without cellaring. The winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal handling to preserve the character of the high quality fruit, which comes from cooler climate vineyards. The Mirrabooka Range is an Unwooded Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon..
The Unwooded Chardonnay is an aromatic, crisp dry white wine that makes a terrific aperitif or accompaniment to seafood and poultry dishes and salads. The Pinot Noir is exactly what you hope for in a pinot. It has bright fruit with elegant spice and is balanced by classic varietal acidity; enjoy with poultry, game, pasta and fish. The Shiraz is a deeply colored, intensely flavored wine with a terrific balance of fruit and spice characters, making it an ideal accompaniment to grilled and barbequed meats. The Cabernet is a terrific South Australian blend from the cooler Eden Valley region and has classic cassis and herbal flavors and aromas and supple tannins.
